About Us
Thanks for Giving...to Tanglewood Park!
As we near Thanksgiving, I am especially thankful for each and every one of you who invested in the vision of Tanglewood Park! Our most recent benefactor, Harbor Steel, recently committed $250,000 in support of Tanglewood Park’s sparkling new stainless steel Meals on Wheels kitchen. Owner Dave Folkert and his wife Carol took an initial tour through Tanglewood Park with Peter Theune and me on October 16th. Their enthusiasm - when translated back to co-owner Steve Heneveld - resulted in our largest single corporate gift to date! Not only were they were impressed with the number of people served by the various agencies housed within the beautifully-renovated facility, but especially with the 4,000 square foot kitchen that will prepare and deliver over 1,300 meals on a daily basis throughout a three county area.
I am also thankful for community leaders like Bob Scolnik who dedicated all proceeds from his November 7th ‘Concert with Friends’ to Tanglewood Park. Bob recruited concert sponsors, organized a raffle and created a memorable evening for all who came to enjoy the music of Max and Ruth Bloomquist, the OatBran Boys and Anisa Hayes. Over $9,000 was raised through his enthusiastic efforts!
I am very grateful for people like Pat and Ed Schroeder who host an annual OctoberFest Party for their neighbors. This year they decided that all proceeds from their party would be donated to Tanglewood Park… $1,000 was collected! And I appreciate people like Jim McClain, who contributed to the campaign before seeing the facility...but once he toured it... became a champion for spreading the word about it! Jim wrote a personal letter and sent it to hundreds of his lifelong friends and associates inviting them to visit the facility and consider a year end contribution. Jim agreed to let me share his message with you—you will fine the letter here
When I agreed to chair the Capital Campaign over 18 months ago, total renovation and equipment costs were projected at $4.7 million with $1.8 million of that secured from the local community . As invoices continue to arrive we can now clearly see that our final costs will be closer to $2 million. Cost overruns can be attributed to the added cost of a building generator @$50,000, a complete resurfacing of the parking lot @$80,000, the cost of moving/adapting/expanding the computer server and phone system @$30,000 and some renovation changes. The good news... thanks to people like you we have over $1.67 million in contributions and pledges! I continue to have every confidence of securing the remaining funds by the end of the year. You can help by spreading the word about Tanglewood Park and inviting your friends, family and work associates to support this worthwhile project that will impact thousands of lives for years to come!
Happy Thanksgiving,
